NORTH CENTRAL ARKANSASSPEEDWAY
North Central Arkansas Speedway - 5/2/08 By Scott Ramos
With the Show-Me Racin’ Series headed to North Central Arkansas Speedway for their first of two visits planned for the 2008 season, track officials once again had extra work on their hands to get the track prepared to make the facilities race ready after a round of severe morning thunderstorms. The Cruiser/Pure Stock class again led off feature racing for the night. Ray Flippin and Marvin Brightwell held down the front row as the field took the green, and after a pair of early cautions Brightwell tried high and low looking for a way past Flippin. The fight at the front lasted through lap seven of the race when John Briggs spun out by himself coming off turn four bringing out the yellow flag once again. After being sent to the back of the pack, Briggs worked his way through traffic and made it back into third on lap ten. A caution on lap twelve closed up the field, and on the lap following that restart, Briggs got past Brightwell for second place. Flippin was able to hold his line over the closing laps and cross the finish line ahead of Briggs to take his first ever feature win, Briggs finished second with Brightwell running third. 1) #16R Ray Flippin 2) #5 John Briggs 3) #T10 Marvin Brightwell 4) #42XS James Haley 5) #00 Lee Croft 6) #54JR Dustin Hudson 7) #31 Bobby Raulston 8) #12 Daniel Sisco 9) #48 Michael Gorbet 10) #35JR Heath “Wing-Nut” Williams 11) #63Y David Gittins The Mini Stock feature race had Mark Shockley once again in Becky McCracken’s car, and also on the pole, with Dave Crisenberry outside the front row. At the drop of the green flag, Crisenberry drove his car off into turn one in first and never looked back. Stephen Radford and Paul Norwick fighting for third was where the early action was on the first few circuits before Kevin Grissom joined the fray making it a three car race for position through the midway mark in the event. Grissom lost contact with the fight for third after getting loose in turn two, and after looking all over the track for a place to pass, Norwick finally nailed down the third spot on lap twelve as the fight for third closed up on the second place car in traffic. Norwick got past Shockley for second on lap fourteen, with a wild fight for fourth behind him that finished three wide at the start/finish line. Crisenberry was the winner as Norwick finished second, with Shockley crossing the line third. 1) #29 Dave Crisenberry 2) #77P Paul Norwick 3) #8M Mark Shockley 4) #48 Kevin Grissom 5) #25 Stephen Radford 6) #7R Jim Richeson 7) #911 Dan Lyle 8) #D9 Daniel Lewis 9) #24S George Stokes 10) #00F Don Foy Jackie Hensley and Kandy Methvin led the field to the green for the start of the Hobby feature race. Hensley got the lead on the opening lap, and with Methvin spinning and having to go to the rear of the field early on, Eric Hopper challenged Hensley for the lead for two laps before mechanical problems ended his night on lap five. On the restart, Wayne DeGase challenged Hensley for the top spot before Hensley began to pull away from the pack. Methvin worked his way back up to fourth as Jason Carter had problems that ended his night early, and after an eight lap fight for position, Methvin took over third on lap nineteen. At the end it was Hensley picking up back to back feature wins, DeGase across the line in second and Methvin finishing in third. 1) #411 Jackie Hensley 2) #WD40 Wayne DeGase 3) #41K Kandy Methvin 4) #9P Pride Pendergrass 5) #2C Jason Carter 6) #21 Eric Hopper 7) #101 Coty Morrow 8) #90 Josh Farris 9) #37C Patrick Campbell The Super Stock class was the TLC Bank featured division of the night. Tom Davenport and Sean Williams occupied the front row as the race began, with Williams leading the first two laps before William’s car failed and ended his night on lap two. Tom Davenport inherited the lead, and led until Curt Cotter finally got around him just past the halfway point in the race. Joe Davenport lined up behind Tom after that and after fighting for position for several laps, the two went side by side for another two before Joe finally got into second place on lap nineteen. At the end it was Curt Cotter the winner, Joe Davenport second and Tom Davenport third. Cotter was not able to claim the TLC Bank extra cash on the line for the evening due to the fact that his car did not display the TLC Bank contingency sticker. 1) #13 Curt Cotter 2) #28 Joe Davenport 3) #99k Tom Davenport 4) #1D Dave Wallace 5) #19SH Hunter Duren 6) #31R Brent Raulston 7) #82 Sean Williams The Show-Me Racin’ Series was on the track next, and for twenty-five laps, the action on the track had the riveted attention of the fans in attendance. Kevin Patrick and Kevin Henson led the field to the green flag for the start of the race, and it was the outside line that went to the front right away with Henson leading Ken Essary and Conner Ward for the first few laps. Lap five saw a new leader as Ken Essary got underneath Henson to take over the top spot. Ward got past Henson on the following lap, and it was a fight for second after that as Essary paced the field the rest of the way. Shane Essary started eighth on the field an was one of several drivers to pressure Ward for second, getting into second for a few laps before losing the spot back to Ward on lap fifteen. Jeremy Kelly fought with Shane Essary after that for position with Kelly getting third on lap nineteen. As the field came off the final turn to take the checkered flag, it was Ken Essary leading the way to take the win, Ward crossing the line running second, Kelly taking third, Shane Essary fourth, and Jim Fulp crossing the line a nose ahead of Leslie Essary to take fifth. 1) #55 Ken Essary 2) #56 Conner Ward 3) #04 Jeremy Kelley 4) #115 Shane Essary 5) #00 Jim Fulp 6) #5 Leslie Essary 7) #30 Don Cloyd 8) #11 Jarrod Hilton 9) #33 Rick Lebow 10) #3 Rick Wallis 11) #60 Darrin Barton 12) #15 Kevin Henson 13) #25 Chris Morelock 14) #26 Burl Woods 15) #59 Jimmy Bellamy 16) #44 Randy Galloway 17) #21 Jordan Holloway 18) #28B Wesley Briggs 19) #37C Gary Chambers 20) #13 Kevin Patrick 21) #29 Chris Powell 22) #82 Todd McIntrye The Front Wheel Drive class made its debut at the track this evening and in a caution-free event it was Jim Richeson taking the win, moving into that spot on lap five after starting fourth, Mike McMahon second and Clay Lewis finishing third. 1) #101 Jim Richeson 2) #8M Jim Richeson 3) #14 Clay Lewis 4) #1 Phillip (Bubba) Richeson 5) #28 Brad McMahon The next event on the 2008 schedule will be Friday night, May 9th, with all five regular classes back in action and sponsored by Marion County Paving. The Pit and Grandstand gates will open at 6:00, with hot-laps at 7:30 and the racing starting at 8:00.
North Central Arkansas Speedway - 4/25/08 By Scott Ramos Another Friday night at the speedway, and another Friday night with speedway officials working hard right up until race time to get the track race ready after late afternoon showers came through the area. When the feature races hit the track for the Cruiser/Pure Stock event, the action was intense throughout the race with the class selected as the TLC featured division of the night. John Briggs led the field to the green, but contact between Briggs and Heath Williams sent both drivers to the rear of the field on lap three. Williams was able to get back towards the front of the field just three laps after the restart to be a part of a three-car fight for the top spot with David Blankenship and David Gittins, which would run almost through the end. After Blankenship faded with mechanical problems, Williams was able to get into second on lap fourteen, and as the field came off turn four for the checkered flag, Gittins had his motor expire, allowing Williams to get inside to take the win and the TLC Bank extra cash. Gittins was barely able to hold off hard charging Briggs to finish second, with Briggs closing fast in third. 1) # 35JR Heath “Wing-Nut” Williams 2) #63Y David Gittins 3) #5 John Briggs 4) #42XS James Haley 5) #41B David Blankenship 6) #54JR Dustin Hudson 7) #16R Ray Flippin 8) #12 Daniel Sisco 9) # T10 Marvin Brightwell 10) #29R Richard Carson The Mini Stock feature race started out with Paul Norwick and Dan Lyle on the front row. Norwick quickly got his car out front, with Kevin Grissom coming from inside row three in hot pursuit. Several caution flags kept the running slowed, and when the fifth caution flag came out on lap ten for another single car spin, the race was shortened to twelve laps. As the cars came across the finish line, it was Norwick picking up back-to-back feature wins, Grissom finishing second, and Mark Shockley, substituting for the still ailing Becky McCracken, finishing third. 1) #77P Paul Norwick 2) #48 Kevin Grissom 3) #8M Mark Shockley 4) #25 Stephen Radford 5) #00F Don Foy 6) #911 Dan Lyle 7) # D9 Daniel Lewis 8) #24S George Stokes 9) #David McCracken The Hobby race got underway with Ken Williams and Gary Steburg running side by side, and they stayed that way for the first full circuit of the speedway, with Steburg leading through lap four. Jackie Hensley challenged Steburg hard for the lead on laps three and four before taking the lead for good on the seventh time around the speedway. Chris Davidson started inside row three and needed until lap ten to crack the top three, moving around Steburg on lap fourteen for position, At the end, it was Hensley with the win, Davidson second and Steburg finishing third. 1) #411 Jackie Hensley 2) #Y2K Chris Davidson 3) #7S Gary Steburg 4) #35W Ken Williams 5) #71 Shannon Shrum 6) #41K Kandy Methvin 7) #9W Dustin Woodell 8) #90 Josh Farris 9) #4M Jamie Marshall The Super Stock class was missing several of the regular drivers due to a rash of mechanical problems the previous week, and also due to travel plans on the part of others. Dee Kelly was able to defeat Joe Davenport in the event, after leading every lap. 1) # 35 Dee Kelly 2) #28 Joe Davenport In the Modified feature race it was Mark Shockley sitting on the pole, with JW Trammell outside the front row. Rob Muilenburg started outside row three, but was into second place on the second lap, with David Marez moving into third on lap three. Muilenburg and JW fought for the lead through lap six, when Marez found the wall, sending him to the back of the field and eventually ending his night later on. After the restart, Muilenburg needed three laps before he got past JW and drove off for the win. JW Trammell finished second. Glen Bratti needed thirteen laps to get his car up to his third place finishing position. Rick Trammell finished fourth and Randal Griffin finished fifth. 1) #59 Rob Muilenburg 2) #86 JW Trammell 3) #24T Glenn Bratti 4) #HA1 Rick Trammell 5) #1X Randal Griffin 6) #41 Kandy Methvin 7) #19M David Marez 8) #08 Donnie Pate 9) #34X Mark Shockley 10) #2M Mark McDaniel The next event on the 2008 schedule will be Friday night, May 2nd, when the Show-Me Racin’ Series makes the first of two visits for the year to the Speedway. The Pit and Grandstand gates will open at 6:00, with hot-laps at 7:30 and the racing starting at 8:00.
North Central Arkansas Speedway - 4/18/08 By Scott Ramos With track conditions once again affected by race-day rains, track officials scrambled to get the track race-ready this evening. After a short delay at the start of the night, drivers once again had a very fast and tacky track although some drivers struggled to get a grip on the very bottom of the speedway surface. The Cruiser/Pure Stock event once again got the racing started for the night, and with some drivers having problems getting their cars hooked up, it was a caution filled start to the night. David Gittins held the pole position to start the event, with Leon Carson outside the front row, and on the opening lap Carson brought out the first caution of the event when his driveshaft came out as the field cycled through turns one and two. On the restart, John Briggs was able to get past Gittins for the lead by the end of the opening lap, and led every lap of the race after that. With a pair of single car spins and a two car incident keeping the field bunched after restarts, David Gittins stayed in contact with Briggs, but was never able to mount a serious threat for the lead on his way to a second place finish, and Dustin Hudson piloted his car to a third place finish in his first race of the year in the Cruiser/Pure Stock Class. 1) #5 John Briggs 2) #63Y David Gittins 3) #54JR Dustin Hudson 4) # T10 Marvin Brightwell 5) #23H James Hargis 6) #35JR Heath “Wing-Nut” Williams 7) #41B David Blankenship 8) #16R Ray Flippin 9) #48 Michael Gorbet 10) #29L Leon Carson 11) #00 Lee Croft - DQ The Mini Stock division was the TLC Bank featured class of the night, with only a single yellow flag slowing the race early on. Paul Norwick and Stephen Radford occupied the front row as the field took the green flag, and with Becky McCracken on the mend, Keith Katcher made his final start of the year in the 8 car, driving it to a fifth place finish on the night. The fight for the win was intense throughout most of the race, with Radford trying several times to put his ride out front, but Norwick was able to hold his line throughout the event to take the win and the extra TLC cash. Radford crossed the line running second on the night, and after problems in his heat race caused him to start last on the field, Kevin Grissom drove his car up through the field to finish third. 1) #77P Paul Norwick 2) #25 Stephen Radford 3) #48 Kevin Grissom 4) #00F Don Foy 5) #8K Keith Katcher 6) #D9 Daniel Lewis 7) #911 Dan Lyle The Hobby division took to the track with Chris Davidson and Wayne DeGase holding down the front row, and at the drop of the green flag, DeGase used the upper groove to get his car out front as the field entered the back straight to pace the field early on, but three quick cautions in the first five laps kept the field tightly packed. Ken Williams made his first start of the year this evening, and fought with Davidson for the second spot all through the middle of the race before Davidson made the final pass for second on lap 16. Eric Hopper was forced to the back of the field after being involved in a wreck that brought out the caution flag on lap five, but picked off several cars as the race progressed. When the checkered flag waved, is was DeGase getting his first win of the year, Davidson crossing the line running second and Hopper finishing third. 1) #WD40 Wayne DeGase 2) #Y2K Chris Davidson 3) #21 Eric Hopper 4) #35W Ken Williams 5) #9W Dustin Woodell 6) #2C Jason Carter 7) #71 Shannon Shrum 8) #17L Brandon Likes 9) #101 Coty Morrow 10) #18 Eddie Cotter 11) #411 Jackie Hensley 12) #90 Josh Farris 13) #99K Tom Davenport In the Modified feature race, Rob Muilenburg finally had a little luck go his way, and after starting on the outside of the front row Muilenburg drove his car to the front of the pack going into turn one and never looked back. The fight for position early on was between pole-sitter Jason Snodgrass and Glenn Bratti as the two fought for position through lap five before Bratti got his car into the second spot and tried to run down the leader. A couple of mid-race cautions allowed Bratti to make up ground on the leader, but on the restarts Muilenburg was able to pull away enough to keep from being challenged for position. At the end it was Muilenburg picking up his first feature win of the year, Bratti finishing second, Snodgrass crossing the line in third, Mark McDaniel finishing fourth, and Kandy Methvin in the fifth position. 1) #59 Rob Muilenburg 2) #24T Glenn Bratti 3) #71 Jason Snodgrass 4) #2M Mark McDaniel 5) #41 Kandy Methvin 6) #34X Mark Shockley 7) #18K Kyle Cotter 8) #10K Kris Lloyd 9) #HA1 Rick Trammell The Super Stock class was the final event on the speedway with a thirty-lap feature race on tap. Hunter Duren and Curt Cotter led the field to the green with Dee Kelly close behind from his outside row two starting spot. After mechanical problems sent Duren to the pits for the night early in the race, it was Kelly trying to get past Cotter at the front that held everyone’s attention as Kelly pulled alongside Cotter several times but never could make the pass. The only caution of the race came out on lap 27, and with a tire going down Kelly was forced to the pits to get a quick change. Over the final laps, Kelly got back into second, but could not get close enough to battle Cotter for the win. Kelly did get back into second before the end and Tom Davenport finished third. 1) #13 Curt Cotter 2) #35 Dee Kelly 3) #99K Tom Davenport 4) #19S Joe Don Sharp 5) #28 Joe Davenport 6) #11D Hunter Duren 7) #21 Eric Hopper 8) # R65M Mike Smith 9) #23H Mike Hargis Intermission saw the go-carts on the track with James Brown the winner, Kent Yarbrough finishing second and Michael Mills third. The next event on the 2008 schedule is Friday night April 25th, with all five classes in action on the track. Pit and grandstand gates open at 6:00, with the racing starting at 8:00.

Week two of the 2008 race season was once again affected by the elements, but the drivers had a very fast and tacky track, and even a slight delay in the action didn’t diminish the fantastic feature races for the night. The first feature race on the speedway was the Cruiser/Pure Stock event. Heath Williams and Marvin Brightwell occupied the front row as the field took the green. Brightwell went tot eh front of the field and down to the bottom of the track entering turn one, with David Gittins electing to go to the top of the speedway. The two were side-by-side entering turns three and four, and remained that way throughout most of the first five laps. Gittins pulled out to a slight advantage over the next couple of circuits before Brightwell again pulled alongside the leader at the line on lap eight. Contact on lap eleven between Williams and Leon Carson cut down the tire of Williams, forcing him off the track. As the white flag was displayed, Brightwell made one more challenge for the lead, with the top tow cars locked in a fight all around the speedway on the final lap. As the checkered waved, it was Gittins earning his first win of the season, less then a car-length ahead of Brightwell who finished second. Ray Flippin crossed the line running third in his first feature race in the Cruiser/Pure Stock Division.
1) #63Y David Gittins 2) # T10 Marvin Brightwell 3) #16R Ray Flippin 4) #29L Leon Carson 5) #35JR Heath “Wing-Nut” Williams 6) #5 John Briggs The Mini Stock feature race was once again dominated by Dave Crisenberry, but Kevin Grissom and Paul Norwick continue to make advances on the Mini-Stock points leader. Stephen Radford brought out the caution on the second lap of the race with a spin caused by a flat tire, bringing out the caution and sending Radford to the pits to replace it. Keith Katcher got his car around pointed the wrong was off of turn two to bring out the caution, once again bunching up the pack. When racing resumed Crisenberry drove off for the win, Grissom crossed the line second, and for the second race in a row under heavy pressure from third place finisher Norwick. 1) #29C Dave Crisenberry 2) #48 Kevin Grissom 3) #77P Paul Norwick 4) #00F Don Foy 5) #911 Dan Lyle 6) #25 Stephen Radford 7) #8K Keith Katcher 8) #D9 Daniel Lewis 9) #24S George Stokes The Hobby division what the TLC Bank featured race of the night. Jackie Hensley and Eric Hopper started side by side on the front row, and over the first half of the race, Hensley pressed leader Hopper on several occasions. On lap fourteen, Hensley stopped on the backstretch bringing out the yellow flag, also dropping him to the back of the field. Hensley would make a run for the front over the final six laps before mechanical problems popped up again before the end. When the race ended it was Hopper taking the win, and the TLC Bank cash, Pride Pendergrass coming home second, and Hensley crossing the line in third. 1) #21 Eric Hopper 2) #9P Pride Pendergrass 3) #411 Jackie Hensley 4) #2C Jason Carter 5) #17 Brandon Likes In the SuperStock feature race, Dee Kelly sat on the pole, and at the drop of the green flag Kelly promptly got his car out front followed by Curt Cotter, with Joe Davenport and Tom Davenport racing side-by-side for position. Track officials threw a caution on lap eight after seeing fluids coming from the back of Kelly’s car, and after an on-track inspection the leak was discovered to be fuel, ending the night for Kelly. Cotter resumed the race on the point with Tom chasing Joe around the track for the next five laps before taking over second on lap thirteen. At the end, Cotter was the winner, Tom Davenport claimed second with Joe Davenport getting third. 1) #13 Curt Cotter 2) #99K Tom Davenport 3) #28 Joe Davenport 4) #35 Dee Kelly 5) #R65 Mike Smith The Modified feature race got off to a rocky start, with three cars getting together in the first turn of the opening lap. On the following restart outside pole-sitter Jason Snodgrass got his car out in front of opening night feature winner Glenn Bratti, and the two lead cars began to drive off from the field behind them. Hard racing JW Trammell made contact with Rob Muilenburg on lap six, sending both cars to the rear of the pack. Muilenburg and Trammell overcame their early incidents and began to march up through the field with Muilenburg taking over third on lap twelve and Trammell getting into fourth on lap fourteen, but neither driver was able to advance further after that. When the final checkered flag of the night was displayed it was Snodgrass the winner, Bratti coming across the line running second, Muilenburg in third, Trammell fourth and Mark Shockley finishing fifth. 1) #71 Jason Snodgrass 2) #24T Glenn Bratti 3) #59 Rob Muilenburg 4) #86 JW Trammell 5) #34X Mark Shockley 6) #18K Kyle Cotter 7) #2B David Kirkland 8) #HA1 Rick Trammell 9) #1X Randall Griffin 10) #41 Kandy Methvin The next event on the 2008 schedule is Friday night April 11th, featuring a 30-lap Super Stock shootout, and go-cart races on the track during intermission. Pit and grandstand gates open at 6:00, with the racing starting at 8:00.
North Central Arkansas Speedway - 3/28/08 By Scott Ramos
The racing action on the track might have been delayed, but drivers and fans alike waited out a slight rain delay and were treated to a great start to the 2008 race season. Before the points season could get underway though, there were still two feature races yet to be run from the opening night at the speedway that needed to be run.
The first feature race that was left over from opening night saw the Modified drivers on the speedway, with the Twin Lakes Community Bank extra cash on the line for the winner. With the absence of two drivers that had qualified for the feature race in front of him, JW Trammell inherited the outside pole position alongside Mark Shockley, with Shockley electing to start at the rear of the field giving the pole spot over to Glenn Bratti. JW jumped out to the early lead on the second attempt to start the race, and on the second circuit, defending track champion Rob Muilenburg spun in turn four, bringing out the caution and dropping him to the back of the field. A battle for position over the closing laps saw Rick Trammell getting around the car of Glenn Bratti, and when the checkered flag was displayed, JW Trammell was the winner, Rick Trammell finished second and Bratti finished up in third.
1) #86 JW Trammell 2) #HA1 Rick Trammell 3) #24T Glenn Bratti 4) #2M Mark McDaniel 5) #34X Mark Shockley 6) #59 Rob Muilenburg 7) #41 Kandy Methvin 8) #11V Chris Vanscoy 9) #18K Kyle Cotter 10) #9J Jeremy Morris 11) #17J Jason Johnson 12) #13 Curt Cotter
Only three Super Stocks were ready for the first night of racing back on March 14th, and they all returned for the feature race this evening. Curt Cotter and Tom Davenport battled briefly for the lead, but Cotter soon got around Tom, and went on to the win. Tom Davenport finished second, with Joe Davenport having to settle for third after a mechanical failure ended his race on lap 13.
1) #13 Curt Cotter 2) #99K Tom Davenport 3) #28 Joe Davenport.
The Cruiser/Pure Stock was the first points paying feature race on the track, with Heath Williams and Marvin Brightwell on the front row leading the field to the green flag. The field stayed tightly packed over the opening laps until the car of John Briggs apparently broke a fuel pump on lap three coming off turn 4. When the field restarted it was a three-car fight for the second spot with David Gittins, Williams and James Haley each trying for the position. A spin by Williams on lap eight once again put the field under caution, with Brightwell taking the green on the restart and driving off for the win. David Gittins held on for second and James Haley finished third.

The Mini Stock feature race ended with a great fight for position, but it was Dave Crisenberry starting last on the field working his way through traffic that was the story of the race. Crisenberry took seven laps before getting his car out front with Kevin Grissom following him around Don Foy to take over second. Paul Norwick moved into third on lap eleven, with the cars of Grissom and Norwick crossing the line side by side for position at the end. Crisenberry was the winner, Grissom took second and Norwick finished third.

In the Hobby feature race Jackie Hensley made his first start of the year on the outside pole position, and with the exception of restarts was never seriously pressured all race long. Coty Morrow had his motor expire on lap 8, putting up a considerable wall of smoke forcing a caution on lap 9 for safety concerns. With Eric Hopper running second on the restart, he spun his car sending him to the back of the pack. James Hargis would bring out the final caution of the race when he had a left front wheel break coming off turn two ending his race for the night on lap 18. At they end it was Hensley the winner, DeGase crossing the line second and Hopper finishing third.
1) #411 Jackie Hensley 2) #WD40 Wayne DeGase 3) #21 Eric Hopper 4) #2C Jason Carter 5) #23H James Hargis 6) #101 Coty Morrow 7) #9W Dustin Woodell
The SuperStock feature race had Joe Davenport on the pole, with Tom Davenport outside the front row in the Twin Lakes Community Bank featured class of the evening. Tom soon got out front and started to pull away from the field, but Curt Cotter spun in turn one and stacked the cars back up nose to tail. Tom once again pulled away on the restart, but Joe’s car broke on lap seven stacking up the field one more time. Tom pulled away a little on the restart, but Hunter Duren pressed him hard over the final five laps of the race, searching high and low far a way around. When the checkered flag flew, Tom picked up his first ever feature race win, as well as the TLC cash, Duren finished second and Cotter came across the line running third.
